Best Practice 1: No Fuel Day

Objectives of the Practice:

• To encourage the students and staff for saving fuel and environment.
• To motivate the student community to save fuel.
• To create a pollution-free zone in the college campus.

Context:

Environment pollution is the greatest challenge to mankind today. Degradation of nature and natural resources has created serious challenges such as deforestation, global warming, and depletion of oil resources. The initiative aims to make students environmentally conscious and reduce unnecessary fuel consumption.

The Practice:

Since 2019, every last Saturday of the month is observed as "No Fuel Day." On this day, no cars, bikes, or scooters are permitted in the college campus. This initiative is planned and monitored by the Eco Club of the college.

Problems Anticipated:

No problems have been anticipated; the response from teachers, employees, and students has been very positive.

Best Practice 2: Cleanliness Drive by Students

Objectives of the Practice:

• To maintain cleanliness within and outside the classrooms and campus.
• To create awareness about maintaining a clean environment.
• To promote the Swachh Bharat initiative.

Context:

The college conducts cleanliness drives in different phases, both within and outside the campus, to maintain a clean environment and promote government initiatives like Swachh Bharat.

The Practice:

Cleanliness drives are carried out throughout the year. Students and teachers work together to clean classrooms, verandas, and surrounding areas on a weekly basis. The Eco Club and NSS also organize community cleanliness programs in adjacent areas.

Best Practices for the Academic Year 2018-19

Best Practice 1: Book Bank Facility

Objectives of the Practice:

• To encourage students by creating a convenient reading atmosphere.
• To support economically disadvantaged but meritorious students.
• To foster reading habits among students.
• To improve the academic performance of poor and meritorious students.

Context:

Many students in the region face economic hardships that hinder their studies. To address this issue, the college library provides a Book Bank facility, offering books to poor and meritorious students.

The Practice:

The library organizes this practice, starting with a list of eligible students prepared by department heads. Books are then distributed to students at the beginning of the academic session.

Best Practice 2: Hand-Written Magazine (Subas)

Objectives of the Practice:

• To encourage creative writing among students.
• To improve students’ writing skills.
• To foster a habit of creative expression.

Context:

Creative writing enhances thinking and writing skills. To nurture this ability, the Department of Assamese publishes a hand-written magazine, "Subas," encouraging students to showcase their talents.

The Practice:

Since 2003, the magazine has been published annually under the supervision of the department. An editorial board, led by a student editor, collects and compiles creative works like stories, poems, and articles.
