Dhemaji Commerce College

Dhemaji Commerce College, a premier institution of Higher Education with Commerce and Arts faculty, was established in 1982 under the noble initiative and painstaking efforts of some leading and enlightened citizens and the general public of Dhemaji. Initially, the college started with the commerce stream only, and subsequently, the Arts Stream was introduced in 1989.

The college is affiliated with Dibrugarh University and registered under section 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The College was brought under the Deficit Grants-in-Aid system by the Government of Assam on 25th March, 1998. Later, it was brought under the system of provincialisation by the Government of Assam in 2005.

Dhemaji Commerce College is located in the easternmost corner of Assam, near the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. It is surrounded by villages inhabited by tribal and backward communities, offering a serene and green natural environment conducive to learning.

The college is situated in the District of Dhemaji on Railway Station Road, about 2 kilometers away from Dhemaji town. It can be conveniently accessed by rickshaws or motor vehicles. From Dhemaji Railway Station, the institute is approximately half a kilometer away, making it easily reachable for students and visitors.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Ever since its inception, the college has been engaged in imparting quality education. The college has now emerged as a full-fledged institution with undergraduate departments of Arts and Commerce. Besides, the college has a Centre for Vocational Studies and a Centre for Computer Education offering Diploma and Certificate courses. The institute is also offering a number of PG, UG, and Certificate courses under IGNOU.

The college is striving to upgrade the quality of education and is making every effort to maintain a good academic standard while carrying out extension activities as part of its institutional social responsibility toward society. The main campus spans 5.07 acres of land, in addition to 5.60 acres outside the main campus.

The present infrastructural facilities of the college include over 27 spacious classrooms, 4 ICT-enabled rooms, a women’s hostel, and a central library with nearly twenty-eight thousand text and reference books and journals, along with 50,000+ e-books (INFLIBNET). The auditorium can accommodate one thousand people, and the conference hall has a seating capacity of 150 people. There is also a canteen and separate common rooms for boys and girls, equipped with toilet and urinal facilities.

The college has a separate departmental building. All the departments maintain separate libraries to assist students with books. A Network Resource Centre attached to the Computer Lab provides basic computer and internet facilities for the students.

The college utilizes the playground and sports facilities of the District Stadium through an agreement with the District Sports Association. The stadium is located to the south of the college, within a walkable distance of just half a kilometer. Additionally, the college has a mini gymkhana attached to the boys' common room, featuring a multi-gym and other facilities.

The faculty strength of the college is 37, and contractual teachers are also appointed in some subjects. The college remains committed to providing its relentless services toward the all-round development of its students as well as the community as a whole.
